What is Federra.cloud?+
Federra is a federated European cloud. It's built from standardised DCNs — Distributed Cloud Network Nodes — installed inside existing buildings that already have spare electrical capacity, such as warehouses, farms, retail stores and industrial sites. Every DCN joins one centrally orchestrated network (the DCNe), so instead of a few distant data centres you get sovereign cloud capacity near you.
What does "federated" actually mean?+
A federated cloud is many independent nodes running as one coherent platform. Federra federates hundreds of DCNs across Europe into a single cloud: capacity is provisioned on the DCN nearest you, workloads shift between DCNs for resilience, and the whole network gets closer and stronger for everyone with every location added.
What is a VCO (Virtual Cloud Operator)?+
A Virtual Cloud Operator is a self-service customer who discovers, registers, provisions and pays for sovereign EU cloud capacity with no human sales involvement. VCOs sign up with a credit card, go live in minutes, and only pay when they spin up capacity on the nearest DCN.
How does hosting a DCN work?+
You provide only floor space (about one container footprint), electrical power and building access. Federra installs, operates, maintains and monitors the sealed DCN 24/7 and federates it into the network — including fibre installation where connectivity isn't already available. Staff or occupants never touch it; replacement is a courier swap.
What does a location receive for hosting a DCN?+
Power costs are fully reimbursed at the prevailing indexed rate (about 750–800 kWh/month), the site gets a free secured business internet connection on its own VLAN where fibre is installed, and a capped free cloud resource credit for its own projects. Optional local AI services — queue detection, shrinkage prevention, shelf monitoring — run on-site so camera footage never leaves the building.
Is Federra sovereign and GDPR compliant?+
Yes. Federra is EU-operated and sovereign by design: data stays within the region under EU-auditable control, aligned with GDPR, NIS2, DORA and the EU AI Act. Because the network is federated, capacity runs on a DCN near your users rather than in a non-EU hyperscale region.
How is this different from a hyperscaler?+
No hyperscaler can copy the cost model: refurbished hardware, no data-centre rent, and power sourced through the host location — sometimes below the grid tariff at surplus sites. And because Federra is federated across many DCNs rather than centralised in a few regions, capacity sits near your users. A DCN goes live in weeks versus multi-year builds, and it's sovereign and EU-operated by design.
